One for the World University of Alberta Chapter
The next organization we will be exploring is the One for the World University of Alberta Chapter! A little bit of background about One for the World is that it was co-founded by two MBA students at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2014. Since its inception, the organization has vastly expanded to include more than 75 chapters at University campuses across the United States, Canada, Australia and the UK.
One for the World aims to revolutionize charitable giving to alleviate extreme poverty in the developing world by educating individuals about effective philanthropy and providing a platform through which donations can be channelled to the world’s most impactful organizations. One for the World partners with the renowned charity evaluator, GiveWell, to create a portfolio of charities that have been thoroughly evaluated for their transparency and effectiveness. Since 2014, One for the World has donated nearly $1M to the charities in its portfolio and has motivated more than 1,550 students to take the 1% pledge. One for the World provides multiple volunteer, leadership and professional development opportunities for both their executive and general members. This organization allows students to take part in something greater than themselves and provides students with more information regarding poverty and active changes they can take to become a strong global citizen.
