Equality UAlberta
Hey there! It’s us again, back with another blogspot, this time on EQUALITY UALBERTA! This amazing student group is full of inspiration and ready to take campus by storm! Equality Ualberta is a new student group that focuses heavily on reducing disparities between genders, and promoting overall equality. They want to educate on gender politics, terminology, and hold in person events for the greater student body to get involved.
Their goal is to “promote Equality in all forms, particularly Gender Equality, through resources, infographics, events, workshops, and activities.” This year, with the help of their student volunteers, they hope to create virtual resource toolkits, resource handbooks, and other content.
They also hope to host workshops, with speakers and presentations on equality-related issues, they want to break the stigma, break stereotypes, and promote women empowerment! They “plan on creating an environment where we inspire young women to look up to positive role models, and to know that no dream is unachievable.” They also want to focus on educating young men on respecting women’s boundaries, and understanding that women empowerment is an important duty of theirs just as much.
While first inspired by the UN’s HeforShe initiative, Equality Ualberta hopes to push this idea further - advocating to support intersectionality, adn promote all forms of equality, not just between genders. The Club’s co-presidents, Mehul and Rehma, are two passionate upper year students who have a strong work ethic, and are greatly involved in the clubs’ community. A diverse team, with diverse beliefs, Equality Ualberta wants all students to know their passion for equality knows no limits-
“Our club is a welcoming and inclusive space for people of all identities and backgrounds, we want to provide students with a safe and inclusive space where they feel welcome to voice their opinions, thoughts and feelings regarding gender equality issues.” Equality Ualberta is a team full of life, love, and pride - who wouldn't want to join this great group?
They are actively recruiting for general members right now, and students are welcome to join the team throughout the year! Volunteers will help out with content creation, distribution of resources, setting up for events or workshops.
