Child Advocacy Society of the University of Alberta
The next organization is the Child Advocacy Society of the University of Alberta. Their mission as a group is to work alongside post secondary students and child advocacy centers to aid children in overcoming abuse and help to secure a safe and bright future.
CASUA strives to educate students about the topic of childhood abuse, carry out a variety of fundraisers to assist Edmonton organizations in their work to support victims and connect post secondary students with careers in child advocacy and welfare in multiple sectors.
The Child Advocacy Society has multiple volunteer opportunities. Additionally, they have their team divided into three branches: Events, Outreach and General. Now, let’s dive a bit deeper into each of these branches.
As part of Events Members will work to organize and facilitate events throughout the year in order to fundraise for the Zebra Center in Edmonton. The Outreach Member role is perfect for students interested in presenting and public speaking- in this role students present to a variety of university of classes (examples include PSYCO, SOC, EDU, etc) and speak on signs of child abuse detection, awareness and prevention. Finally, General Members have lower levels of commitment to the organization, but act as a supporting member in volunteering for events and other fundraisers throughout the year. These variety of positions allow students the opportunity to work with Child Advocacy Society in different roles and at various levels of commitment.
Although fall term recruitment will formally be completed at the time of this post, CASUA is always interested in students joining throughout the school year.
